The observatory, which sits atop the main building on the Enid High Campus, is an incredible resource both for Enid students and and for our community.
Enid High School recognizes the late Jim Smeltzer, a former teacher, whose vision decades ago helped to create the observatory.
This outdoor classroom honors Dr. Nancy Currie-Gregg, principal engineer for NASA and former astronaut. Dr. Currie-Gregg, a veteran of four space shuttle missions, accrued more than 1,000 hours in space. She is also a retired United States Army Colonel and Master Army Aviator.
Enid High School salutes Dr. Currie-Gregg and her contribution to our great country and the field of space exploration.
We are proud to partner with Dr. Currie-Gregg to enhance STEM programs throughout the district. EHS alumnus Tim Gregg remembers astronomy class and the impressive learning experience the observatory provided as one of his fondest memories at EHS.
We are honored that our distinguished graduate and his wife have dedicated themselves to enhancing STEM programs and working to ensure that this outdoor classroom remains available for students to enjoy for years to come.
